Back cover adhesive is the double-sided tape or pre-cut adhesive strip used to bond the glass or plastic back panel of a smartphone to its frame. It is consumed in every back panel replacement and is an essential consumable for any repair shop handling sealed-back devices.
Types of Adhesive Used
Two main adhesive forms are used: die-cut adhesive strips pre-shaped to the exact perimeter of specific phone models, and universal double-sided tape rolls from which custom shapes can be cut. Die-cut strips are faster to apply and provide consistent coverage; they are available for most popular Samsung, Xiaomi, iPhone, and Huawei models. For less common models, a 0.3mm double-sided tape roll is cut to fit manually.
Adhesive Strength Grades
Back cover adhesive is available in different tack strengths. Standard tack is adequate for most repairs and allows future opening with moderate heat. High-tack adhesive (similar to the factory OEM bond) creates a stronger seal but makes future repairs more difficult and increases the risk of back glass cracking on the next opening.
For devices with IP-rated water resistance, the factory adhesive bond is part of the waterproofing system. Aftermarket adhesive does not restore IP certification, but a thorough perimeter bond at least provides primary moisture exclusion.

Die-cut adhesive sets for popular models: KES 150 to KES 400. Universal double-sided tape rolls (typically 5 metres): KES 300 to KES 700. Using the correct thickness (0.2mm to 0.5mm depending on the gap) is important — adhesive that is too thick will cause the back panel to sit proud of the frame.
