Display Adhesive: Mobile Phone Spares
Display adhesive bonds the front display assembly to the phone's mid-frame or chassis. Like back cover adhesive, it is consumed with every display replacement and is essential stock for repair workshops. The adhesive must be removed from the frame before a new display is fitted, and new adhesive applied before closing the repair.
OCA vs Frame Adhesive
Display adhesive exists at two levels. OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) is used inside the display assembly to bond glass layers together — this is a UV-cured optical adhesive of exceptional clarity that is part of the laminated display stack. Frame adhesive, by contrast, is the structural bond between the outer edge of the display assembly and the phone frame — a double-sided tape running around the display perimeter.
Frame adhesive is the standard consumable stocked in Nairobi's repair market. It comes as model-specific die-cut strips or as universal tape rolls. Some display assemblies for popular models come with the adhesive pre-applied to the assembly's frame edge, simplifying installation.
Heat Resistance Requirements
Display adhesive must tolerate operating temperatures from 0°C to at least 60°C without releasing — the display bezel area reaches elevated temperatures during intensive use, and adhesive that softens too early will allow the display to lift at the edges.
Pricing and Usage
Die-cut display adhesive sets: KES 150 to KES 400. Universal foam tape rolls: KES 300 to KES 600. A 3M OCA lamination sheet for glass-only repairs: KES 300 to KES 700 depending on size. Using the wrong adhesive thickness causes the display to sit proud of the frame or prevents the back cover from seating fully.
