Your calls connect but then drop after a few seconds or minutes, sometimes repeatedly on the same call. Frequent dropped calls are disruptive professionally and personally. At Pro-Logic Technologies, we approach dropped call faults by distinguishing between network-side issues and phone-side hardware or software problems.
Is It the Network or the Phone?
The first and most important question is whether the issue is specific to your phone or to the network in your area. We assess this by:
- Testing whether calls drop in multiple locations with different signal strengths.
- Testing whether calls also drop from a different phone on the same SIM.
- Checking whether the issue is specific to one contact or universal.
If calls drop on multiple networks in multiple locations only on your phone, the fault is in the phone.
Phone-Side Causes of Dropped Calls
- Antenna fault — a damaged or poorly connected cellular antenna causes the phone to lose signal during calls, dropping them.
- Baseband software fault — a corrupted modem/baseband firmware can cause instability in the radio layer during active calls.
- SIM card fault — a worn or damaged SIM card can cause dropped calls independently of the antenna.
- Network mode misconfiguration — a phone incorrectly configured to use a specific network band or generation (e.g. forced to 3G in a 4G area) can experience call drops at cell handover points.
Step 1: Network Settings and SIM
We reset network settings, test with a fresh SIM if available, and verify that network mode is set to automatic. We also confirm that VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is correctly enabled if applicable to your carrier.
Step 2: Firmware Update
We ensure modem firmware is up to date, as carrier-specific modem updates can resolve call stability issues.
Step 3: Antenna and Hardware Repair
Where hardware is implicated, we perform the antenna and board-level repairs described in our cellular signal repair process.
Dropped calls should not be your normal. Bring your phone to Pro-Logic Technologies for a definitive diagnosis.
