How to Replace a Phone Back Cover
The back cover on a smartphone is the first line of defence against everyday wear. Replacing a broken or aesthetically damaged rear cover refreshes the phone's appearance and restores any structural integrity the cover provides.
What You Will Need
-
Replacement back cover (correct model, colour, and material — glass, plastic, or metal variant)
-
Heat gun
-
Plastic pry tools
-
Suction cup
-
Fresh adhesive strips
-
Isopropyl alcohol
Step 1 — Power Off and Prepare
Power off the phone. Place it face-down on a clean, lint-free surface. Heat the rear panel edges for 60–90 seconds — heat glass backs longer than plastic ones, as glass adhesive is stronger.
Step 2 — Separate the Old Cover
Place the suction cup near the bottom edge and pull up to create a small gap. Insert a plastic pry tool and work it slowly around the lower corners and up both sides. Do not rush — the adhesive will release progressively. On phones with curved glass backs, the curve increases adhesive contact area and requires more patience.
Step 3 — Remove Completely
Once all four sides are released, lift the cover away. If any internal cables are routed to the back cover (antenna cables on some models), disconnect them carefully before fully removing.
Step 4 — Clean and Apply New Adhesive
Clean the chassis frame thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. Apply pre-cut adhesive strips or a thin bead of frame adhesive around the entire perimeter.
Step 5 — Fit and Press
Align the new cover precisely and press down evenly from the centre outward. Apply steady pressure for 5 minutes and leave undisturbed for 30 minutes before use.
