How to Replace a Phone Chassis
The chassis is the complete structural frame of the phone — equivalent to the mid frame in many descriptions. A replacement chassis essentially means rebuilding the phone from scratch, transferring all internal components into a new structural body.
What You Will Need
-
Replacement chassis (model-specific)
-
Full screwdriver set
-
Heat gun
-
Plastic pry tools
-
Tweezers
-
Anti-static mat and wrist strap
-
Adhesive strips
-
Labelled storage containers for screws and small parts
Step 1 — Prepare Your Workspace
A chassis replacement is the most complex phone repair possible short of motherboard work. Lay out an organised workspace with multiple small containers for screws (labelled by location), a magnetic mat, and strong lighting. Take reference photos of the original device from multiple angles before starting.
Step 2 — Complete Disassembly
Remove the screen, rear panel, battery, motherboard, all cameras, speaker, microphone board, vibration motor, SIM tray, and all flex cables. Work in a defined sequence from the outside in.
Step 3 — Inspect All Transferred Components
Before reassembly, inspect each component for secondary damage caused by the original impact. Damaged components will need replacing at the same time — proceeding with damaged parts simply defers more repairs.
Step 4 — Rebuild Inside the New Chassis
Reassemble in strict reverse order following your photographs. Every screw, cable, and component must return to its exact original position. Incorrect screw lengths cause motherboard damage — never force a screw that does not turn smoothly.
Step 5 — Power On and Full Function Test
Test every hardware and software function systematically: display, touch, sound, cameras, buttons, charging, cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and biometrics. Document any remaining issues for further diagnosis.
