How to Replace a Phone Screen Protector
A screen protector is the first and most affordable line of defence for a phone's display. Regular replacement after cracking or excessive scratching maintains display clarity and continues protecting the underlying panel from direct impact.
What You Will Need
-
Replacement screen protector (tempered glass or PET film, model-specific)
-
Microfibre cleaning cloth
-
Alcohol wipe
-
Dust removal sticker
-
Application guide frame (if included)
Step 1 — Choose the Right Protector
Tempered glass protectors offer better impact protection and clarity. PET film protectors are thinner and more flexible — better for edge-to-edge curved displays. For flat displays, tempered glass is recommended.
Step 2 — Remove the Old Protector
Peel the old protector from a corner, applying even pressure to avoid damaging the display. Discard the old protector safely, particularly if it is glass.
Step 3 — Clean Thoroughly
Use the alcohol wipe to clean the screen surface, then buff dry with the microfibre cloth. Use the dust sticker to remove any remaining dust before application. Work in a low-dust environment such as a freshly cleaned bathroom.
Step 4 — Align and Apply
Use the alignment guide if provided, or align manually by matching the protector's cutouts to the front camera and speaker grille. Lower slowly onto the screen, allowing surface tension to pull it down smoothly.
Step 5 — Remove Bubbles
Any bubbles remaining after application can usually be pushed to the edge using a card wrapped in a microfibre cloth. Bubbles that do not shift indicate trapped dust — lift that section, remove the dust with the sticker, and re-lay the protector.
