How to Replace a Phone Tempered Glass
Tempered glass screen protectors protect the display from scratches and impact. When one cracks, it should be replaced promptly — a shattered protector with sharp edges can cut fingertips and no longer provides meaningful protection for the underlying display.
What You Will Need
-
Replacement tempered glass screen protector (model-specific)
-
Screen cleaning kit (microfibre cloth, alcohol wipe, dust removal sticker)
-
Isopropyl alcohol wipe or lens cloth
Step 1 — Remove the Old Protector
Lift a corner of the cracked tempered glass using a fingernail or a card edge. Peel it away slowly and evenly to prevent small glass fragments from scattering. If the glass is severely shattered, apply a strip of clear adhesive tape over it first to hold fragments together during removal.
Step 2 — Clean the Display Surface
Wipe the screen with the alcohol cleaning wipe included in the kit. Follow with the dry microfibre cloth. Use the dust removal sticker to lift any remaining particles — even a single dust speck causes a visible bubble under the new glass.
Step 3 — Inspect for Display Damage
With the old protector removed, inspect the underlying display for cracks. A cracked display beneath the protector requires a separate screen repair before applying a new protector is worthwhile.
Step 4 — Apply the New Tempered Glass
Align the protector with the camera hole, speaker grille, and screen edges before making contact. Once aligned, lower it onto the screen and let it fall into place under its own weight. Press outward from the centre to remove any remaining bubbles.
Step 5 — Seat Edges Fully
Press firmly around all edges and corners. Any lifting edge will collect dust and peel further over time.
