The vibration motor is the component responsible for all haptic feedback — from call alerts to keyboard clicks and navigation gestures. Modern phones use either eccentric rotating mass (ERM) motors or linear resonant actuators (LRA), the latter providing more precise and nuanced haptic responses.

What You Will Need

  • Replacement vibration motor (model-specific — confirm ERM or LRA type)
  • Precision screwdrivers
  • Plastic pry tools and spudger
  • Tweezers
  • Adhesive (if original motor used adhesive mounting)

Step 1 — Verify the Motor Type

ERM motors are small cylinders with an offset weight; LRA motors are flat rectangular components. Confirm which your phone uses before purchasing a replacement — they are not interchangeable.

Step 2 — Open the Device

Power off the phone, open the rear panel or bottom chassis section, and disconnect the battery. The vibration motor is typically accessible without removing the screen.

Step 3 — Remove the Old Motor

The motor will have a small two-wire flex cable connected to the motherboard or charging board. Disconnect this carefully. Remove any retaining screw or peel away adhesive securing the motor body, then lift it free.

Step 4 — Seat the New Motor

Place the new vibration motor into the chassis cavity with the correct orientation. If adhesive-mounted, apply a small strip of double-sided adhesive tape to the base of the motor before seating. Reconnect the flex cable firmly.

Step 5 — Test Haptic Feedback

Power on and test haptics through Settings — Sounds and Vibration — Vibration Intensity. Test keyboard vibration and ringtone vibration patterns. Seal the device once haptics are confirmed working correctly.
