Volume buttons control media levels, ringer volume, and — on many phones — serve as shutter triggers for the camera app. A stuck or broken volume button causes audio control issues and may prevent the device from powering on correctly if the volume key is used during boot sequences.

Step 1 — Test the Buttons
Press each volume key individually. If volume up works but volume down does not (or vice versa), the fault is in the switch beneath that specific key. Both failing simultaneously usually indicates a disconnected or torn flex cable.
Step 2 — Open the Device
Power off and open the rear panel. Volume button flex cables run along the opposite side of the chassis from the power button. Disconnect the battery after opening.
Step 3 — Remove the Old Flex Cable
Locate the volume button flex cable routing along the left side frame (on most Android phones). Unscrew retaining brackets, disconnect the flex from the motherboard, and slide the button caps and flex assembly out of the frame channel.
Step 4 — Install the New Assembly
Thread the new flex cable along the side channel, seat both button caps in their respective frame cutouts, and connect the flex cable to the motherboard. Replace all bracket screws in the correct positions.
Step 5 — Test Both Buttons
Power on without fully sealing and test volume up, volume down, and camera shutter (if applicable). Confirm both buttons click cleanly and register reliably before closing the device.
