Ghosting on a Samsung display — where faint traces of previous content linger on screen, or icons and text leave a visible afterimage — is a known AMOLED phenomenon that becomes more noticeable as the display ages or is used at high brightness. Call 0723763173 and our Nairobi technicians will assess whether your screen needs replacement or if the issue can be managed.
What Is Screen Ghosting?
Screen ghosting on Samsung AMOLED displays comes in two forms:
Temporary ghosting (image persistence) — a ghost of the previous image lingers for a few seconds after the screen changes. This is a normal AMOLED characteristic and is not a defect. It typically fades on its own.
Permanent ghosting (burn-in) — the ghost image is always visible, regardless of what's on screen. You can see the faint outline of the navigation bar, a status bar, or frequently displayed content even on a blank white background. This is burn-in and is a hardware defect in the AMOLED panel.
What Causes AMOLED Burn-In?
- Running the screen at maximum brightness for extended periods
- Displaying static content for long durations (navigation apps, always-on elements)
- Using the phone well past the display's rated lifespan
- Certain Samsung models with aggressive always-on display settings enabled by default
Can Ghosting Be Fixed Without Replacing the Screen?
Temporary ghosting: yes — reduce screen brightness, use dark mode, and enable the built-in screen burn protection in Samsung settings.
Permanent burn-in: no software fix exists. The only resolution is a full display assembly replacement.
