Rectifiers — specifically bridge rectifiers or full-wave rectifier diode modules — convert the incoming alternating current (AC) from the mains supply into direct current (DC) within the TV's power supply board. This is the very first stage of power conversion inside the TV. Rectifier failure is typically caused by overvoltage events, lightning surges, or long-term thermal stress. A faulty rectifier causes the TV to be completely dead (no power at all) or to blow fuses repeatedly.
Bridge rectifier modules package four diodes in a single block, simplifying replacement compared to replacing individual diodes. They are widely available in Nairobi's electronics component shops.
