Touch Sensitivity Issues: How We Fix This
Your phone's touchscreen works — but it takes hard presses to register taps, misses gentle touches entirely, or responds to some fingers but not others. Touch sensitivity issues are distinct from ghost touches, and at Pro-Logic Technologies, we approach them with the same structured precision as any other display fault.
Causes of Reduced Touch Sensitivity
- Damaged digitizer — the digitizer layer detects touch through changes in electrical capacitance at the point of contact. Physical damage or moisture exposure reduces sensitivity in affected zones.
- Thick or incompatible screen protector — very thick tempered glass, particularly low-quality ones, absorbs capacitive touch signals before they reach the digitizer, requiring harder presses.
- Software sensitivity settings — some phones allow touch sensitivity adjustment in settings, particularly to compensate for screen protectors. An incorrectly configured setting can make the screen feel unresponsive.
- Gloved or dry hands — capacitive screens require skin contact to register input. Very dry skin or thin gloves can reduce sensitivity, though this is a usage issue rather than a fault.
- Aftermarket screen with inferior digitizer — low-quality replacement screens often use inferior digitizer layers that are less sensitive than the original.
Step 1: Screen Protector and Settings Check
We remove any screen protector and test touch response. We also check sensitivity settings in the display or accessibility menu. If sensitivity improves with the protector removed, we fit a quality replacement that is compatible with the phone's digitizer sensitivity level.
Step 2: Display Assembly Replacement
If the digitizer itself is damaged or degraded — common in phones that have been dropped or exposed to moisture — we replace the display assembly with a quality unit. A good-quality replacement restores full, effortless touch sensitivity.
Step 3: Calibration
On some Android devices, touch calibration can be performed after replacement to optimise sensitivity mapping for the specific replacement panel. We complete this step where applicable.
Struggling to get your phone to respond to your touch is both frustrating and tiring. Get it fixed properly at Pro-Logic Technologies.
