How Inverter Boards Work
CCFL backlights require a starting voltage of up to 1,000V and a running voltage of 600–800V — far higher than the TV's internal DC supply. The inverter board contains a transformer and switching circuitry to generate this high-voltage AC supply. When the inverter fails, the backlights go dark and the screen appears completely black (with a faint image visible under torchlight).
